Chemical Archeology
In his recent blog item “Chemical Archeology: OSCAR3 to NMRShiftDB.org” Egon Willighagen asks who coined the term “Chemical Archeology”.
Despites Egon’s nifty attempt to rewrite history the term is actually at least 23 years old, as shown by a course given in 1983 entitled “Chemical Archeology” at the Instituto de Investigaciones Antropologicas. UNAM. The term denominates a field studying archeological specimens by means of Chemical Methods. Peter Murray-Rust of Cambridge was the first from which I heard the term used in the the sense implied by Egon in his blog item.
